The term Grand Slam is used today when someone wins all the four major tennis tournaments (Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and US Open) in a year. This application of grand slam was first used by sports journalist Allison Danzig in 1938 when he referred to the achievement of Australian Donald Budge who had won all the major tennis tournaments that season. In the North America grand slam is also known as a baseball homerun with the bases loaded.
